Part 6 of this series looks at verse 15. The verse says: She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. This verse can seem very daunting. Getting up really early. Cooking breakfast and preparing lunches for everyone. Starting work for the day. All while everyone else is still sleeping? Sounds exhausting right?
One thing is for sure, the good wife didn’t waste time. She got up and got after it. She knew that certain things had to be done early in the morning for things to run smoothly for her family.
I never thought I would be one of those people who enjoyed mornings and would get up extra early to get stuff done, but here recently I have been doing that. It makes my days run so much more smoothly, its helps me be in a better mood, and I get more things done in a day. I pretty much had to train my body to get up early. I try to keep the same morning routine everyday, so I don’t have to think as much first thing in the morning. The one thing that really helps me get out of bed is putting my alarm (phone) across the room so that I will have to get up to turn it off. It has worked like a charm for me.
The second part of this verse is about providing food for her family (once again). Making sure our families are well nourished is very important. It is important for growing kids to have a good breakfast. If we as mothers don’t get up and get breakfast ready for our kids, it can cause them to struggle in school/life. No one wants to be hangry first thing in the morning. Breakfast should be our biggest meal of the day, so don’t skip it.
The third part of this verse is about providing portions for her female servants, which means she gave her servants orders for what they needed to do. I know you are probably thinking: “Servants?! This woman had it made.” Yeah, but this woman didn’t have a washer, dryer, dishwasher, roomba, etc. We have different kinds of servants now-a-days, your appliances! If this part of the verse was applied to today, it would mean she loaded the dishwasher, started a load of clothes, etc.
Getting up early and getting things ready for the day is so beneficial. It will help things run more smoothly for your family and you will start the day off right. If you get up and get yourself ready before everyone else, then that frees up the bathroom. If you get up and have breakfast fixed, that means your kids can start the day with full tummies. If you get up and unload the dishwasher, that means that clean up after supper will be easier. No fighting for the bathroom, no hungry kids, not as much to do after work. I think that is motivation enough.
Strength & Dignity Part 6 action item:
Create a morning routine for yourself. Decide a time to get up every morning and start training your body to do it. Here is an older post I did about morning routines, it may be helpful: Morning Routine
