An Inviting Home

Home Sweet Home Blog Series. Post #4

The last post for the blog series is all about having an inviting home.  Having a peaceful home, a healthy home, and a cozy home all help you prepare to open your home to others.  The holiday season is when most people take more time to be thankful for what they have.  What better way to share your blessings with others than to invite them to share a meal around your table and time of fellowship in your home.

Being Busy Does Not Equal a Full Life

In today’s world, it seems like everyone strives to be busy, to keep a full calendar, and to over commit themselves.  Everyone is overwhelmed, stressed, and missing out on what really matters.  This is not how you live a full life.  Having a full life does not mean you are constantly busy.  Having a full life means that you make time for things that matter most to you, and get rid of everything that is not essential.

Southern Hospitality

The South is known for its hospitality and friendly people.  Everybody waves when they pass you in the road whether they know you or not.  Porches are necessities, and we always welcome friends and neighbors to stop by.

We love a good potluck or pig pickin, because a southern woman is always looking for an opportunity to show off her cooking skills.  One thing that I have learned over the years is that hospitality doesn’t have to be a big showy deal.  It is nice every now and then to have a big barbecue and invite the whole neighborhood, but on a everyday basis hospitality isn’t that big of an ordeal.

Self-Care for Busy Mamas

Self-care is so so important, and I really realized this after becoming a mama.  Most of the time we mamas let ourselves become last priority, and don’t take care of ourselves like we should.  We get overwhelmed and exhausted which can lead to us becoming irritable and unpleasant to be around.  We need to make sure we are taking care of ourselves so that we can better take care of our families.

Morning Routine

Summer has been so busy, and lately I have felt a little behind and unorganized.  Recently one of my goals has been to start a new morning routine.  Starting the day off right and not in a rush makes all the difference for me.  My goal is to have a simple morning routine that I enjoy and look forward to.  I love getting up before everyone else and enjoying a little peace and quiet to start the day.

Book Recommendations

I love to read, and I’ve always thought that I just didn’t have enough time for it.   I recently cut back the TV watching to only one or two nights a week.  After making that small change, I have found that I have a lot more time for other things, including reading.  I also downloaded the Audible app (Audible Membership), and listen to books while I’m cleaning around the house or on my commute to work. So, I wanted to share some of my favorites that I have been reading lately.
